Effects of this medicine

This medicine is metabolized by enzymes which abound in malignant tumors to suppress the proliferation of malignant tumors.
It is usually used to treat inoperable or recurrent breast cancer, colorectal cancer and gastric cancer.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have renal disorder. If you are within 7 days after stoping using tegafur/gimeracil/oteracil potassium combination ingredient.
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Inoperable or recurrent breast cancer : In general, take the medicine according to following regimen A or B.
    -Regimen A : In general, take 3 to 5 tablets (900 to 1,500 mg of the active ingredient) at a once, according to your body surface, twice a day, within 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner. Take the medicine for consecutive 21 days, and then discontinue for 7 days, and repeat this dosing schedule. Strictly follow the instructions.
    -Regimen B : In general, take 5 to 8 tablets (1,500 to 2,400 mg of the active ingredient) at a once, according to your body surface, twice a day, within 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner. Take the medicine for consecutive 14 days, and then discontinue for 7 days, and repeat this dosing schedule. Strictly follow the instructions.
    Adjuvant chemotherapy of colorectal cancer : In genral, take 5 to 8 tablets (1,500 to 2,400 mg of the active ingredient) at a once, according to your body surface, twice a day, within 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner. The dosage may be decreased according to symptoms of the patient. Take the medicine for consecutive 14 days, and then discontinue for 7 days, and repeat this dosing schedule. Strictly follow the instructions.
    Advanced or recurrent colorectal cancer which is not amenable to curative resection : This medicine is used concomitantly with other antineoplastic agent. In general, take 4 to 7 tablets (1,200 to 2,100 mg of the active ingredient) at a once, according to your body surface, twice a day, within 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner. The dosage may be decreased according to symptoms of the patient. Take the medicine for consecutive 14 days, and then discontinue for 7 days, and repeat this dosing schedule. Strictly follow the instructions.
    Adjuvant chemotherapy of rectal cancer used concomitantly with radiotherapy : In general, take 3 to 5 tablets (900 to 1,500 mg of the active ingredient) at a once, according to your body surface, twice a day, within 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner. The dosage may be decreased according to symptoms of the patient. Take the medicine for consecutive 5 days, and then discontinue for 2 days, and repeat this dosing schedule. Strictly follow the instructions.
    Gastric Cancer : This medicine is used concomitantly with platinum antitumor agent. In general, take 4 to 7 tablets (1,200 to 2,100 mg of the active ingredient) at a once, according to your body surface, twice a day, within 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner. The dosage may be decreased according to symptoms of the patient. Take the medicine for consecutive 14 days, and then discontinue for 7 days, and repeat this dosing schedule. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may decrease the immune system and cause infections such as a cold. Take enough care, such as to avoid the crowded places, wash hands and gargle after returning home.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include nausea, loss of appetite, neurotoxicity (peripheral sensory neuropathy and peripheral motor neuropathy), fatigue and vomiting. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • abdominal pain, frequent diarrhea [dehydration]
  • skin ulcer on palm and foot sole, blister, pain [hand-foot syndrome]
  • acute feeling of pressure in the chest, angial pain, cardiac arrest [cardiac disorder]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin and the white of eyes [liver disorder, jaundice]
  • decreased urine output, edema, general malaise [renal disorder]

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask the pharmacist or medical facility how to discard unneeded medicine.
