Effects of this medicine

This medicine shows alpha-receptor blocking action to suppress blood pressure elevation caused by catecholamine. It also directly acts on vascular smooth muscle to dilate blood vessels. Since it reduces blood pressure when blood pressure elevation is caused by melanocytoma which produces excess levels of the catecholamine, it is used to diagnose melanocytoma by measuring the degree of blood pressure reduction following administration of this medicine.
It is usually used for blood pressure control before/during surgery and diagnosis of melanocytoma.
