Effects of this medicine

This medicine decreases eye pressure by blocking beta-receptors, which is one of the sympathetic nerve receptors, and reducing production of fluid in the eyes (aqueous humor).
It is usually used to treat glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have heart failure, sinus bradycardia, atrioventricular block, cardiogenic shock or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
    If you have or have a history of bronchial asthma/bronchospasm.
    If you wear contact lenses.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, apply 1 drop of a 1% preparation at a time, once a day. If its effect is insufficient, use a 2% preparation and apply 1 drop at a time, once a day. This medicine is a 1% preparation. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • Make sure not to let the tip of eye dropper touch the surface of your eye.
  • After applying, close your eyes and do not blink for a while (1 to 5 minutes).
  • If the medicine gets on your eyelid when applied, wipe it off immediately.
  • If you need to use other eye drops at the same time, wait more than 10 minutes after applying the other eye drops, and make sure to apply this medicine last.
    If for some reason you have to apply this medicine first, wait long enough before you apply the other eye drops.
  • If you miss a dose, apply the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should not apply two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally use more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop applying this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions regarding eye symptoms include smarting pain, pain, foggy vision (blurring of eyes), keratitis, eye itch, dryness of eyes and eye mucus. The most commonly reported adverse reactions regarding systemic symptoms include dizziness, taste abnormality (such as bitter taste), headache, dermatitis and slow pulse. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • shortness of breath, breathing difficulty, whistling breath [asthmatic attack]
  • slow pulse followed by faint [syncope]
  • slow pulse, shortness of breath, dizziness [bradyarrhythmia such as atrioventricular block, sick sinus syndrome and sinus arrest]
  • general malaise, respiratory distress, general edema [congestive heart failure]
  • chest pain, pressure in chest, cold sweat [coronary spastic angina pectoris]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Put this medicine in the accompanying bag and store it at a room temperature, away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • The container is only half full but contains enough of this medicine for treatment.
  • Discard the remainder if 1 month has passed after opening. Do not store them.
