Effects of this medicine

This medicine has hematopoietic effect to supplement iron deficiency in blood, and consequently improves anemia caused by iron deficiency.
It is usually used in the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have: gastrointestinal diseases such as peptic ulcer, chronic ulcerative colitis or regional enteritis, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, diverticulum or stricture in the intestine, decreased intestinal motility or dysphagia.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, take 1 to 2 tablets (105 to 210 mg of iron) daily, in 1 to 2 divided doses on an empty stomach. If you developed severe adverse reactions, take this medicine immediately after meal. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • Swallow this medicine without chewing.
  • It has been reported that Fero-Gradumet remained in the mouth and/or esophagus, which led to ulceration in some patients. So please take it with adequate amounts of water (a glass of water), and swallow it promptly.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instruct you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • It does not matter if stool turns black while taking the medicine. After releasing of iron, remains of plastic component will be excreted in stool.
  • Tell the doctor that you are taking an iron preparation when you undergo a stool analysis. Sometimes the result is found to be false positive for occult blood tests.
  • Avoid taking any food containing tannic acid (tea, etc.) with this medicine, since it may impair the absorption of iron.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, rash, hives and itch. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
