Effects of this medicine
This medicine inhibits human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 reverse transcriptase and the growth of HIV, to maintain the supply of CD4 cells (cells playing an important role in fighting against HIV and other infections) in the body.
It is usually used to treat HIV-1 infection.
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
If you have a history of skin disorder such as rash accompanied by fever, oral ulceration, conjunctivitis, swelling of face and limbs, muscle pain, joint pain and malaise.
If you have a history of decline in liver function.
If you have or have a history of liver dysfunction or renal disorder.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)
Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is

In general, for adults, start with 1 tablet (200 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day for 14 days, followed by the maintenance dose of 1 tablet (200 mg) at a time, twice a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms. Also other anti-HIV agents are prescribed for combination use with this medicine. Strictly follow the instructions.
If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
Precautions while taking this medicine
If you notice any change in your physical condition after the start of treatment, report it to your doctor. Also this medicine does not prevent transmission of HIV from infected patients to others. To prevent HIV transmission to others, you should always practice safe sex and pay attention to prevent others from touching your blood and body fluids.
Possible adverse reactions to this medicine
The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, fever and nausea. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
fever, blister, oral ulceration [skin disorder (toxic epidermal necrolysis, muco-cutaneo-ocular syndrome)]
rash, fever, swelling of lymph nodes [hypersensitivity syndrome]
general malaise, yellowing of the skin and the white of eyes [hepatitis, liver dysfunction, jaundice, liver failure]
depressed mood, loss of appetite, insomnia [depression]
rash, hives, angioedema [anaphylactoid symptoms]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.
Storage conditions and other information
Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
Tighten the cap after use. This medicine in an opened bottle or out of the bottle should not be left in a place of high temperature and humidity.
Discard the reminder. Do not store them. Seek advice of your pharmacy or medical institution about proper disposal of the unused medicines.
