Effects of this medicine

This medicine regulates neurotransmitter (e.g. dopamine, serotonin) in the brain to improve the symptoms such as strong anxiety, tense feeling, lowering of motivation and depression.
It is usually used to improve schizophrenia and depressive symptoms in bipolar disorder.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If the patient is in a coma.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Schizophrenia: In general, for adults, take 40 mg of the active ingredient at a time, once a day after a meal. The dosage may be adjusted according to your age or symptoms. The maximum daily dose is 80 mg.
    Depressive symptoms in bipolar disorder: In general, for adults, take 20 to 60 mg of the active ingredient at a time, once a day after a meal. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms. The maximum daily dose is 60 mg.
    This preparation contains 60 mg of the active ingredient in a tablet. In any case, strictly follow the instructions.
  • Expected efficacy may not be obtained when taken on an empty stomach. Be sure to take the medicine after meals.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose after a meal or after taking a light snack. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause sleepiness or decreased attention/concentration/reflex movement. Do not operate dangerous machinery, such as driving a car.
  • Pay attention that alcohol (drinking) may intensify medicinal effects.
  • Do not take food or beverages containing grapefruit (e.g. grapefruit juice) with the medicine, since it may intensify medicinal effects.
  • Do not take any food containing St. John's wort with the medicine, since it may diminish medicinal effects.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include akathisia (a feeling of restlessness), nausea, sleepiness, headache and insomnia. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • high fever, muscle stiffness, tremor of limbs [malignant syndrome]
  • involuntary movements of face, particularly around the mouth [tardive dyskinesia]
  • convulsion [convulsion]
  • thirst, excessive fluid intake, excessive/frequent urination [hyperglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask the pharmacist and the medical institution how to discard them.
