Effects of this medicine

This medicine suppresses increase of mycete by inhibiting enzyme needed in biosynthesis of mycotic cell membrane component, and then shows fungicidal effect.
It is usually used to treat superficial dermatomycosis such as nail tinea and deep-seated dermatomycosis such as granuloma trichophyticum which are difficult to treat with topical antimycotic medicines.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have liver disorder or blood disorder.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (125 mg of terbinafine) at a time, once a day after meal. The dosage may be adjusted according to age and symptoms of the patient. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as possible. However, if it is 8 hours or less before the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Keep regular appointments with your doctor under his/her direction to check if you have any asymptomatic adverse reactions of liver and blood. You should have tests to check the function of liver and blood, once a month for initial 2 month, and regularly thereafter during taking the medicine.
  • Sleepiness, dizziness or light-headedness may occur, take extra care in operating dangerous operation such as work at height or driving a car.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include stomach discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, stomach full feeling, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, taste abnormality, rash, itch, psoriaform rash, serum sickness-like reaction (hives, fever, joint pain), hives, erythema, photosensitivity reaction, facial edema, lymph node swelling, erythema multiforme and bullous dermatitis.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • loss of appetite, general malaise, yellowing of the skin and the white of the eyes [severe hepatic dysfunction]
  • common cold syndrome (fever, throat pain), bleeding tendency, anemia symptoms [blood disorder, such as pancytopenia]
  • fever, rash/blister in skin, bloodshot eyes/chapped lip or stomatitis [serious skin disorder, such as toxic epidermal necrosis]
  • muscle pain, lassitude, reddish brown urine [rhabdomyolysis]
  • respiratory distress, hives, swelling in lips/tongue/throat [shock, anaphylaxis]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from light, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
