Effects of this medicine

This medicine is a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It is a chelate compound of paramagnetic metal gadolinium ion which enhances contrasts of tissues and lesion by shortening relaxation time in MRI, and thus improves diagnostic capability.
It is usually used for contrast enhanced MRI examination of cerebral/myelon or the trunk/limbs.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If your general condition is extremely poor.
    If you have bronchial asthma or renal impairment.
    If you, your parents or siblings have allergic predisposition to asthma, allergic rhinitis, rash or hives.
    If you have had convulsion or epilepsy.
    If you have been administered gadolinium-based contrast agent before.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Precautions while taking this medicine

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include hives, nausea, vomiting and abnormality of hepatic function. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • facial pallor, cold sweat, dizziness, difficulty breathing, light-headedness, swelling around eyes or lips [shock, anaphylaxis]
  • general convulsion [convulsive seizure]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • In similar medicines, it has been reported that fever, rash, nausea, decreased blood pressure or difficulty breathing occur an hour to several days after initiation of administration. Contact with your doctor immediately if the above symptoms occur.
