Effects of this medicine

This medicine acts upon benzodiazepine receptor to exert hypnotic and sedative effects. It also acts on the sleep-related nervous system to enhance its hypnotic effect.
It is usually used to treat insomnia and to relieve insomnia due to excessive tension before surgery.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, sleep apnea syndrome, cor pulmonare, emphysema, bronchial asthma or cerebrovascular disorder.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Insomnia: In general, for adults, take 20 mg of the active ingredient at a time, immediately before bedtime.
    Preanesthetic medication: In general, for adults, take 15 to 30 mg of the active ingredient at a time, before bedtime on the day before surgery.
    In any case, the dosage may be adjusted according to the disease, age or symptoms, but the maximum daily dose is 30 mg of the active ingredient. This preparation contains 20 mg of the active ingredient in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • Take this medicine on an empty stomach before bedtime and do not take a midnight snack, etc. after taking this medicine. Food in the stomach may intensify the effect of this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine in case you may possibly get up halfway to work after going to bed.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, taking this medicine after meals may intensify the therapeutic effect. Be sure to take this medicine apart from your end of meal time. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause sleepiness and depression of attentiveness, concentration and reflexive motor function. Avoid driving a car or operating dangerous machinery.
  • Alcohol may intensify the effects of this medicine. Take care in drinking alcohol while taking this medicine.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include sleepiness/somnolence, light headedness, dull headache and malaise. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • an uncontrollable desire for a drug [dependence]
  • disturbed and unable to have normal thoughts, impaired mind, unable to recognize time or place [irritable excitation, confusion]
  • breathing becomes shallow and fast, shortness of breath, disturbance of consciousness [respiratory depression, carbon dioxide narcosis]
  • to see or hear something that is not really there, impaired mind, excitable [psychic symptoms (hallucination, delusion), disturbance of consciousness, abnormal thinking, excitation, confusion]
  • erectile dysfunction, inability to exercise or speak well, trembling of limbs [erectile dysfunction, ataxia, depressed motor function, dyssynergia, dysphasia, tremor]

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
