Effects of this medicine

This medicine changes to nitroso compounds in bodies of protozoa such as Trichomonas and in bacterial cells, and it shows antiprotozoal and antibacterial effects due to instability of spiral structure of DNA by the nitroso compounds.
It is usually used for the treatment of trichomoniasis (infection with Trichomonas vaginalis), infections with anaerobic bacteria (skin infections, surgical and orthopedic infections, respiratory infections, pelvic infections, intraperitoneal infections, intrahepatic infections, intracerebral infections), infectious enteritis, bacterial vaginosis, amebic dysentery and Giardia lamblia infection.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have organic diseases in brain or spinal cord (except brain abscess).
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Trichomoniasis (infection with Trichomonas vaginalis): In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (250 mg as the active ingredient) at a time, twice daily for 10 days, as 1 course (duration of treatment).
    Infections with anaerobic bacteria: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (500 mg as the active ingredient) at a time, 3 or 4 times daily.
    Infectious enteritis: In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (250 mg as the active ingredient) at a time, 4 times daily, or take 2 tablets (500 mg) at a time, 3 times daily for 10 to 14 days.
    Bacterial vaginosis: In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (250 mg as the active ingredient) at a time, 3 times daily, or take 2 tablets (500 mg) at a time, twice daily for 7 days.
    Amebic dysentery: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (500 mg as the active ingredients) at a time, 3 times daily for 10 days. According to your symptoms, take 3 tablets (750 mg) at a time, 3 times daily.
    Giardia lamblia infection: In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (250 mg as the active ingredient) at a time, 3 times daily for 5 to 7 days.
    In each case, strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Thereafter, continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Since alcohol may induce hangover symptoms such as stomachache, vomiting and facial hot flush, avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • If you are breastfeeding, discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medicine.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach discomfort and dark-red urine. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • numbness, pain, sensory paralysis in limbs  [peripheral neuropathy]
  • unstableness, walking disorder, convulsion, disturbance of consciousness, hallucination  [central neurological disorder]
  • fever, headache, nausea, vomiting  [aseptic meningitis]
  • high fever, blister, inflammation in mucous membrane of eyes, mouth, etc., general redness  [toxic epidermal necrolysis, mucocutaneous ocular syndrome]
  • nausea, fever, sudden severe pain in abdomen  [acute pancreatitis]
  • fever, throat pain, chill [leukopenia, neutropenia]
  • malaise, loss of appetite, yellowness in skin or in the white of eyes  [hepatic function disorder]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep the medicine out of the reach of infants and children. Store it at room temperature (1 to 30 degrees Celsius) away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
