Effects of this medicine

This medicine suppresses symptoms caused by hypersecretory of thyroid hormone, helps to loosen phlegm by promoting the secretion of bronchial mucosa and promotes the absorption of gumma in the tertiary syphilis. It has also the effect of lowering radioiodine uptake into thyroid follicular cell.
It is usually used to treat goiter (accompanied with hyperthyroidism), difficulty in coughing up phlegm accompanied with chronic bronchitis/asthma and tertiary syphilis, prevent and lower internal exposure of thyroid caused by radioiodine.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have pulmonary tuberculosis.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Goiter accompanied with hyperthyroidism: In general, take 5 to 50 mg of the active ingredient in 1 to 3 divided doses a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to age and symptoms of the patient.
    Difficulty in coughing up phlegm accompanied with chronic bronchitis/asthma and tertiary syphilis: In general, for adults, take 2 to 10 pills (0.1 to 0.5 g of the active ingredient) at a time, 3 to 4 times a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to age and symptoms of the patient.
    Prevention/lowering of internal exposure of thyroid caused by radioiodine: In general, take the medicine as follows: 13 years and over, 2 pills (100 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, between 3 to 12 years, 1 pill (50 mg) at a time, between 1 month after birth to 2 years, 32.5 mg, newborn, 16.3 mg, of the active ingredient at a time.
    This preparation contains 50 mg of the active ingredient in a pill. Strictly follow the instructions in any case.
  • Please note that this medicine may be adsorbed to stomach contents if you take this medicine immediately after meals.
  • For prevention/lowering of internal exposure of thyroid caused by radioiodine, strictly follow the instructions of the public officials, etc.
  • If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, nausea, vomiting, gastric pain, diarrhea and symptoms of common cold. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • conjunctivitis, swelling of eyelid, nasal inflammation [iodine intoxication]
  • rough skin, weight loss, general debility [iodine cachexia]

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from light, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
