Effects of this medicine

This medicine expands blood vessels by blocking the calcium channel and decreases in blood pressure.
It is usually used to treat hypertension and angina pectoris.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • For hypertension: In general, for adults, take 2.5 to 5 mg of amlodipine at a time, once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the symptoms. If its effect is insufficient, the dosage may be increased up to 2 tablets (10 mg of amlodipine), once a day. In general, for children 6 years old or over, take 2.5 mg at a time, once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age, body weight or symptoms. However, the maximum daily dose is 1 tablet (5 mg).
    For angina pectoris: In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (5 mg) at a time, once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the symptoms.
    This preparation contains 5mg of amlodipine. In any case, strictly follow the instructions.
  • This medicine can be taken with saliva only. Crush the tablet lightly with your tongue and swallow it with saliva.
  • (For treatment of hypertension) If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. (For treatment of angina) If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause dizziness. Be aware of working at heights or operating dangerous machinery such as driving a car.
  • Do not take grapefruit juice with this medicine, since it may intensify the therapeutic effects of this medicine.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, itch, hives, photosensitivity, erythema multiforme, vasculitis, angioedema and gingival hypertrophy. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowness in skin or conjunctiva [fulminant hepatitis, liver dysfunction, jaundice]
  • limb subcutaneous bleeding, sore throat, headache [agranulocytosis, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia]
  • pulse is disturbed, shortness of breath, dizziness [atrioventricular block]
  • muscle pain of limbs, lassitude, reddish brown urine [rhabdomyolysis]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask your pharmacy or medical institution on how to discard the remainder.
