Effects of this medicine

This medicine stimulates dopamine D2 receptors and shows antiparkinsonian effects to improve symptoms such as tremor, muscle rigidity, slow movement and abnormal posture.
It is usually used to treat Parkinson's disease.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have or have had: psychiatric symptoms such as hallucination and delusion or heart disorders.
    If you have: hypotension, renal disorder or liver disorder.
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, start with taking 2 mg of ropinirole once daily, and take 4 mg daily in the second week. Thereafter, the dosage may be increased as necessary by 2 mg/day at intervals of at least 1 week under observation. In any case, the dosing schedule is once daily. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms. However, the daily dose should not exceed 16 mg of ropinirole. This preparation contains 8 mg of ropinirole in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • Since taking this medicine without food may cause nausea or vomiting, it is recommended to take this medicine after meals.
  • Try to take this medicine at the same time each day.
  • Swallow this medicine without chewing, splitting or crushing, since it is sustained-release preparation.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • You may develop sleepiness or sudden sleep onset without any sign. Do not engage in dangerous activities such as driving a car, operating machinery or working at heights.
  • Dizziness, dizziness on standing up or light headedness may occur. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor.
  • This medicine has been reported to cause persistent gambling that may result in social disadvantages, or cause aggressive sexual impulses. If such symptoms occur, consult with your doctor.
  • If this medicine is found in feces, consult with your doctor. It may result in an inadequate therapeutic efficacy.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include somnolence, dyskinesia, nausea and constipation. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • sudden sleep onset without any sign, state close to sleep with impaired consciousness [sudden onset of sleep, extreme somnolence]
  • seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist, unfounded subjective assumption, impaired mind [hallucination, delusion, excitation, confusion, delirium]
  • high fever, consciousness disorder, severe muscle rigidity, involuntary movement, shock symptoms [malignant syndrome]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask your pharmacy or medical institution on how to discard the remainder.
