Effects of this medicine

This medicine regulates the function of neurotransmitters in brain by acting on the adrenaline receptor, and then improves the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
It is usually used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have atrioventricular block (2nd- or 3rd-degree).
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Patients under the age of 18: In general, start taking one tablet (1 mg of guanfacine) at a time for those weigh less than 50 kg, or taking 2 tablets (2 mg) at a time for those weigh more than 50 kg, once daily. After duration of more than one week, the dosage increases to the maintenance dose (1 mg for more than 17 kg and less than 25 kg in weight, 2 mg for more than 25 kg and less than 38 kg in weight, 3 mg for more than 38 kg and less than 50 kg in weight, 4 mg for more than 50 kg and less than 63 kg in weight, 5 mg for more than 63 kg and less than 75 kg in weight, 6 mg for more than 75 kg in weight), one tablet (1 mg) at a time. The dosage may be adjusted according to your symptoms, however, it should not increase over the maximum dose (2 mg for more than 17 kg and less than 25 kg in weight, 3 mg for more than 25 kg and less than 34 kg in weight, 4 mg for more than 34 kg and less than 42 kg in weight, 5 mg for more than 42 kg and less than 50 kg in weight, 6 mg for more than 50 kg in weight). In each case, take it once daily.
    Patients aged 18 or over: In general, start taking 2 tablets (2 mg) at a time, once daily. After duration of more than one week, the dosage increases to the maintenance dose (4 to 6 mg), one tablet (1 mg) at a time. The dosage may be adjusted according to your symptoms, however, it should not increase over the maximum dose (6 mg). In each case, take it once daily.
    In each case, strictly follow the instructions.
  • Do not split, crush or grind this medicine. Swallow it without chewing.
  • If you miss a dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause drowsiness or sedation. Take note of the avoidance of driving a car or operating dangerous machinery during use of this medicine.
  • Alcohol may enhance the effects or the adverse reactions of this medicine.
  • You may have symptoms such as suicidal ideation, suicide attempt. If any of these symptoms are observed, consult with your doctor rapidly.
  • If you are breastfeeding, avoid it while taking this medicine.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include somnolence, hypotension, headache, dry mouth and dizziness. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • dizziness, malaise, breathlessness  [hypotension, bradycardia]
  • loss of consciousness  [faint]
  • loss of consciousness, dizziness  [atrioventricular block]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep the medicine out of the reach of infants and children. Store it at room temperature (1 to 30 degrees Celsius) away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them. For disposal methods, consult the pharmacy or the medical institution from which you have received the medicine.
