Effects of this medicine

This medicine promotes insulin secretion mainly by action on the pancreas.
It is usually used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you are a patient with ketosis, diabetic coma or precoma, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, liver/kidney dysfunction, infection, injury, gastrointestinal disorder such as diarrhea or vomiting.
    If you are just after/before having surgery.
  • If you are pregnant, possible pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, the initial dose is started with 1-2 tablets (0.5-1mg of the active ingredient) daily. Take tablets once a day (before or after breakfast), or take tablets twice a day (before or after meals both in the morning and in the evening). The maintenance dosage is 2-8 tablets (1-4mg). The dosage may be adjusted as necessary. But daily dosage should not exceed 12 tablets (6mg). Strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Avoid working at heights or driving a car while taking the medicine because hypoglycemia can lead to an accident.
  • Please carry a card stating "diabetic patient".
  • If episode of hypoglycemia is occurred, take sugar or glucose. If you take an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor (miglitol, acarbose or voglibose) simultaneously taking the medicine, and episode of hypoglycemia is occurred, take glucose.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include hypoglycemia or hypoglycemia symptom, nausea, diarrhea, abdomen enlarged feeling, abdominal pain, rash and dizziness. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • feeling of weakness, severe hunger, sweating [hypoglycemia]
  • fatigability, shortness of breath, pallor [hemolytic anemia]
  • sore throat, fever (hyperthermia), muscle pain [agranulocytosis]
  • anemia symptom (generalized fatigability, palpitation, etc.), bleeding tendency (nasal bleeding, etc.), fever [pancytopenia, thrombocytopenia]
  • generalized fatigability, nausea, yellowness in skin or conjunctiva [liver dysfunction, jaundice]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Do not store the remainder and consult your pharmacy or medical institution how to discard it.
