Effects of this medicine

This medicine binds to α-type human atrial natriuretic peptide receptor and activates membrane-bound guanylyl cyclase to increase intracellular cGMP, resulting in vasodilation and diuresis.
It is usually used to treat acute heart failure.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have: hypotension, cardiogenic shock (systemic circulation is impaired due to decreased heart rate), an infarction in part of the heart (right ventricle), dehydration trend, nephrotic syndrome, higher hematocrit value, liver or renal disorder.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Precautions while taking this medicine

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include decreased blood pressure, hypotensive shock, bradycardia (slow pulse) and arrhythmia. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • shock due to hypotension, collapse, slow pulse [decreased blood pressure, hypotensive shock, bradycardia]
  • semi-consciousness due to dehydration, shivering of limbs, headache [electrolyte abnormality due to dehydration, ventricular arrhythmia, erythrocytosis, thrombocytosis]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, nausea [liver dysfunction]
  • bleeding from the nose, increased menstrual bleeding, bruising on limbs [thrombocytopenia]
