Effects of this medicine

This medicine regulates neurotransmitter (e.g. dopamine, serotonin) in the brain to improve the symptoms such as strong anxiety, tense feeling, lowering of motivation.
It is usually used to treat schizophrenia.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If the patient is in a coma.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, start with taking 0.2g (4 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, twice a day after meals. Then, increase the dose in incremental steps. Standard maintenance dose is 0.2 to 0.4 g (4 to 8 mg) at a time, and twice daily after meals. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms. Daily dose must not exceed 1.2g (24 mg). Strictly follow the instructions.
  • Expected efficacy may not be obtained when taken on an empty stomach. Be sure to take the medicine after meals.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose after a meal or after taking a light snack. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause drowsiness and decrease in attentiveness, concentration and reflex movement. Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery.
  • Pay attention that alcohol may intensify the medicinal effect.
  • Do not take grapefruit juice and this medicine together as it may intensify the effect of this medicine.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include Parkinson's syndrome (tremor in limbs, muscle rigidity, slow movement), akathisia (restlessness), insomnia, dyskinesia (involuntary movement of face, particularly around the mouth), drowsiness, anxiety, feeling irritated, irritability, rash, eczema and itch. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • high fever, muscle stiffness, tremor of limbs [malignant syndrome]
  • pain/stiffness/numbness in the muscles of limbs [rhabdomyolysis]
  • involuntary movement of face, particularly around the mouth [tardive dyskinesia]
  • loss of appetite, nausea/vomiting, severe constipation [paralytic ileus]
  • thirst, excessive fluid intake, excessive/frequent urination [hyperglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask the pharmacist or the medical institution how to discard them.
