Effects of this medicine

This medicine inhibits the proliferation of virus causing herpes simplex and herpes zoster.
It is usually used for the treatment of herpes simplex and herpes zoster.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have a kidney disorder.
    If you are on hemodialysis.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Herpes simplex : In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (250 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 3 times a day.
    Herpes zoster : In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (500 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 3 times a day.
    Strictly follow the instructions in any case.
  • If you have a kidney disorder, the dosage may be decreased and the dosage interval may be longer.
    If you are receiving hemodialysis, you may be instructed to take 1 tablet (250 mg of the active ingredient) immediately after receiving hemodialysis.
  • If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as possible when you remembered that you missed a dose. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause disturbances of consciousness such as loss of consciousness or semi-consciousness. Be very careful when you operate heavy machinery such as driving a car.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include headache, drowsiness, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, rash, hives, itching and leukocytoclastic vasculitis (red or purple bruises on the skin, hives). If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • difficulty concentrating or making decisions, seeing or hearing nonexistent things, loss of consciousness, convulsions [confusion, hallucinations, loss of consciousness, convulsions, delirium, encephalopathy]
  • high fever (38 deg. C or higher), sores on lips, intraoral sores, hyperemia (redness) of eyelids or eyes, erythema [toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme]
  • decrease of urine output, swelling, general malaise [acute kidney injury]
  • pain in arm or leg muscles, feeling of weakness, reddish brown urine [rhabdomyolysis]
  • hives, drop in blood pressure, dyspnoea [shock, anaphylaxis]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from light, heat and moisture. (This medicine may change color when exposed to light. Do not take any discolored tablets.)
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
