Effects of this medicine

This medicine improves symptoms of Parkinson disease etc., by changing the active ingredient of this medicine, levodopa, to dopamine in the brain.
It is usually used to treat Parkinson disease and parkinsonian syndrome.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have: glaucoma, hepatic/renal disorder, diabetes, heart/lung disease, bronchial asthma, endocrine system disease, neurological manifestation such as suicide tendency, or osteomalacia.
    If you have/had gastric/duodenal ulcer.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • If you have not taken levodopa so far: In general, for adults, take 1 to 3 tablet(s) in 1 to 3 divided doses a day, after meal on the first day. Gradually increase the dosage by 1 to 2 tablet(s) a day every 2 to 3 days. The maintenance dosage is 3 to 6 tablets a day.
    If you are taking levodopa now: In general, for adults, take levodopa equivalent to about 1/5 of the daily amount which you are taking (this medicine contains 100 mg of levodopa in 1 tablet) on the first day.Take it in 1 to 3 divided doses a day, after meal. Gradually increase or decrease the amount of this medicine after that. The maintenance dosage is 3 to 6 tablets a day.
    The dosage should be adjusted according to your age and symptoms. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause sudden and temporary sleepiness, diminished attention, or decreased reflection ability. Do not drive a car, work at heights, or operate dangerous machinery.
  • Symptoms that can not suppress impulse such as repetitive gambling, repeatedly excessive/unplanned shopping and a pathological increase in sexual desire/appetite despite the resulting social disadvantage may occur.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include involuntary movements, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, hallucinations, insomnia, rash and hives-like eczema. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • breathlessness with fever, stiff muscles in the limbs, absent-mindedness, loss of consciousness [syndrome malin (malignant syndrome)]
  • hallucination, depression and indisposition, loss of appetite, lassitude, sleeplessness [hallucination, depression, confusion]
  • bad abdominal pain, vomiting, vomiting of blood [worsening of gastric/duodenal ulcer]
  • easy fatigability, anemia [hemolytic anemia]
  • sudden and temporary sleepiness [sudden onset of sleep]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store at room temperature (1-30 degrees Celsius), away from light and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
