Effects of this medicine

This medicine inhibits the proliferation of virus causing herpes simplex and herpes zoster.
It is usually used for the treatment of herpes simplex and herpes zoster.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have renal disorder.
    If you are on hemodialysis.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Herpes simplex : In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (250 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 3 times a day.
    Herpes zoster : In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (500 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 3 times a day.
    Strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you have a renal disorder, the dosage may be decreased and the dosage interval may be longer.
    If you are receiving hemodialysis, you may be instructed to take a tablet (250 mg of the active ingredient) immediately after receiving hemodialysis.
  • If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as possible when you remembered that you missed a dose. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause disturbance of consciousness such as loss of consciousness or semi-consciousness. Pay close attention when you operate dangerous machinery such as driving a car.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include headache, somnolence, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and abdominal discomfort. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • impaired mind, difficulty in thinking or deciding, to see or hear nonexistent things, loss of consciousness, convulsion [confusion, hallucination, loss of consciousness, convulsion, delirium, encephalopathy]
  • high fever (38 deg. C or higher), sore of lips, intraoral sore, hyperemia of eyelid or eye, erythema [toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme]
  • decrease of urine output, swelling, general malaise [acute renal failure]
  • pain of the limb muscle, lassitude, reddish brown urine [rhabdomyolysis]
  • hives, decreased blood pressure, respiratory distress [shock, anaphylaxis]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from light, heat and moisture.(This medicine may change color by light. Do not take the discolored tablet.)
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
