Effects of this medicine

This medicine is a macrolide antibiotic and shows antibacterial effects by inhibiting protein synthesis of bacteria.
It is usually used to treat a wide range of infections such as skin infections, respiratory infections, urethritis, cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • For deep skin infection, lymphangitis/lymphadenitis, pharyngitis/laryngitis, tonsillitis (including peritonsillitis and peritonsillar abscess), acute bronchitis, pneumonia, lung abscess, secondary infection of chronic respiratory lesions, sinusitis, periodontitis, pericoronitis or jaw inflammation: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (500 mg [titer] of azithromycin) at a time, once a day for 3 days, total dose of 6 tablets (1.5 g [titer]).
    For urethritis or cervicitis: In general, for adults, take 4 tablets (1,000 mg [titer] of azithromycin) at a time, once.
    For pelvic inflammatory disease: In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (250 mg [titer] of azithromycin) at a time, once a day, after receiving treatment with azithromycin injection.
    In any case, strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose and remember it within one day, take the missed dose when you remember. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause consciousness disorder. Pay close attention when operating dangerous machinery, such as driving a car.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, hives, itch, deterioration of atopic dermatitis, photosensitivity reaction, erythema, blister, skin peel, erythema multiforme, night sweat, hyperhidrosis, skin dryness, skin discoloration, loss of hair and diarrhea. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • respiratory distress, wheezing, swelling of eyelids/lips/tongue [shock, anaphylaxis]
  • rash, erosion or blisters of mucosa (lips, eyes and vulva), fever [toxic epidermal necrolysis, mucocutaneous ocular syndrome, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis]
  • rash, fever, general malaise [drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellow discoloration of the skin and the white of eyes [hepatitis, liver dysfunction, jaundice, liver failure]
  • decreased urine output, edema, headache [acute renal failure]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
