Effects of this medicine

This medicine binds to angiotensin II receptor produced in the body and inhibits the hypertensive activity of angiotensin II by blocking its vasoconstrictive action. It consequently lowers the blood pressure.
It is usually used to treat hypertension.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
  • If you have: diabetes mellitus, renal disorder or hyperkalemia.
  • If you are receiving hemodialysis.
  • If you are on a regimen of low-salt diet therapy.
  • If you are scheduled of surgery.
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • For adults: In general, take 40 to 80 mg of the active ingredient at a time, once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age and symptoms, and may be increased up to 160 mg a day.
    For children aged 6 years or over: In general, for children weighing less than 35 kg, take 20 mg of the active ingredient at a time, once a day. For children weighing 35 kg or more, take 40 mg at a time, once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age, body weight or symptoms. The maximum daily dose is 40 mg for children weighing less than 35 kg.
    This preparation contains 40 mg of the active ingredient in a tablet. In any case, strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause dizziness and light headedness due to a fall of blood pressure. Avoid performing dangerous operations such as working at heights, driving a car or operating machinery.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include photosensitivity, rash, itching, hives, erythema, dizziness, headache, hypotension, palpitation, nausea, abdominal pain, cough (dry cough) and malaise. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • swelling of face, lips, throat and tongue, breathing difficulty  [angioedema]
  • loss of appetite, general malaise, yellowing of the skin and the white of eyes [hepatitis]
  • decreased urine output, swelling of limbs, loss of appetite  [renal failure]
  • loss of consciousness, vomiting, cold feeling  [shock, syncope, loss of consciousness]
  • weakness, numbness in limbs or lips, paralysis of limbs  [hyperkalemia]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them
