Effects of this medicine

This medicine delays digestion/absorption of carbohydrate by suppressing the action of a digestive enzyme that degrades carbohydrate, thereby suppressing rapid increases in blood glucose levels after meals.
It is usually used to improve postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have ketosis (deep massive breath, loss of consciousness, shivering of hands, etc.), diabetic coma or precoma, infections or injury.
    If you are in the pre-/post-operative period.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or possibly pregnant.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (50 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 3 times a day immediately before each meal. If the effect is insufficient, the dosage may be increased up to 3 tablets (75 mg) at a time. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • You can moisten the tablet with saliva on your tongue, then crush it lightly with your tongue, and swallow the tablet with saliva.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose during a meal. However, if you have already finished the meal, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule (immediately before meal). You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Strictly follow the instructions on dietary/exercise therapy.
  • This medicine may cause hypoglycemic symptoms (lassitude, a sense of hunger, cold sweat, palpitation, shivering of limbs, decreased consciousness, etc.). If hypoglycemic symptoms are noted, take glucose.
  • This medicine may cause hypoglycemic symptoms. Pay close attention when working at heights or operating dangerous machinery, such as driving a car.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include abdominal bloating, flatulence (distention caused by retention of gas in the stomach) and diarrhea. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • lassitude, a sense of hunger, cold sweat [hypoglycemia]
  • abdominal bloating, flatulence (distention caused by retention of gas in the stomach), persistent abdominal pain, vomiting [intestinal obstruction]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellow discoloration of the skin and the white of eyes [liver dysfunction, jaundice]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
