Effects of this medicine

This medicine acts on benzodiazepine receptors in the brain and helps you fall asleep easier.
It is usually used to treat insomnia (excluding insomnia associated with schizophrenia or manic-depressive illness).

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
  • If you have liver disorder, myasthenia gravis, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, or decreased respiratory functions due to pulmonary heart disease/emphysema/bronchial asthma or acute phase of cerebrovascular disorder.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, take 1 to 2 tablets (5 to 10 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, just before bedtime. Elderly or patients taking this medicine for the first time should start with 1 tablet (5 mg) at a time. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age, symptoms or disease. However the maximam single dose is 2 tablets (10 mg). Strictly follow the instructions.
  • Take this medicine just before bedtime. If you need to get up and do something (work, etc.) after a short sleep, do not take it.
  • You can moisten the tablet with saliva on your tongue, then crush it lightly with your tongue, and swallow the tablet with saliva. Do not take the tablet without water when you are lying down.
  • If you miss a dose, you may take the missed dose only when you have enough time until you wake up. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause drowsiness and decreased attention/concentration/reflex movement after the next morning. Avoid operating dangerous machinery, such as driving a car.
  • Alcohol (drinking) may intensify medicinal effects. Avoid drinking while taking this medicine.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include light headedness, drowsiness, headache, feeling of residual sleepiness, dull headache, dizziness, anxiety, nightmare, excitement, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, palpitation, rash, itch, malaise, fatigue, weakness of lower extremities, dry mouth, double vision and discomfort. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • unable to feel normal without medicine, stronger insomnia compared to pre-medication (due to reduction/discontinuation), irritation [dependence, withdrawal symptoms]
  • impaired mind, decreased judgment, symptoms of somnambulism [psychological symptoms, consciousness disorder]
  • no memory until sleep stage or during awakening at nighttime, state of semi-consciousness [transient anterograde amnesia, state of semi-consciousness]
  • shallow and rapid breathing, breathing difficulty [respiratory depression]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellow discoloration of the skin and the white of eyes [liver dysfunction, jaundice]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from light, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
