Effects of this medicine

This medicine lowers pulmonary artery pressure by stimulating soluble guanylate cyclase in the vascular endothelial cells, promoting the production of intracellular cyclic guanosine monophosphate and relaxing the blood vessels.
It is usually used to treat chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have liver or renal dysfunction.
    If you are on dialysis.
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, start with 1.0 mg as the active ingredient at a time, 3 times a day. Your doctor will adjust the dose as necessary according to symptoms to determine the optimal dose (0.5 to 2.5 mg at a time). If the dose is to be increased, increase by 0.5 mg per dose in 2-week intervals. However, the maximum single dose is 2.5 mg, 3 times a day. If the dose is to be decreased, decrease by 0.5 mg per dose. Maintain the optimal dose after it is determined by your doctor. For the dose maintenance period, the maximum single dose is also 2.5 mg, 3 times a day. If poor tolerability, such as development of hypotension, is noted, decrease the dose by 0.5 mg per dose. This medicine contains 0.5 mg of the active ingredient in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, you should never take two doses at one time. If there is more than 6 hours until the next dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If there is less than 6 hours until the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. If you miss a dose for 3 days or more, the dose needs to be readjusted. Consult with your doctor about restarting this medicine.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause dizziness. Pay close attention when working at heights, driving a car or operating machinery.
  • Avoid smoking, since it may lower medicinal effects.
  • Avoid taking any food containing St. John's wort, since it may diminish medicinal effects.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include dizziness, headache, indigestion, flush (hot flush), nausea, diarrhea and anemia. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
