Effects of this medicine

This medicine is a macrolide antibiotic which shows antibacterial action by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.
It is usually used to treat infections such as skin infections, respiratory infections, urethritis, cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have liver dysfunction or heart disorder.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • For deep-seated skin infection, lymphangitis, lymphadenitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis (peritonsillitis, peritonsillar abscess), acute bronchitis, pneumonia, lung abscess, secondary infection of chronic respiratory lesions, sinusitis, periodontitis, pericoronitis or jaw inflammation: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (500 mg [titer] of azithromycin) at a time, once a day for 3 days (total dose of 1,500 mg [titer]).
    For urethritis or cervicitis: In general, for adults, take 4 tablets (1,000 mg [titer] of azithromycin) at a time.
    For pelvic inflammatory disease: In general, for adults, after the infusion of azithromycin, take 1 tablet (250 mg [titer] of azithromycin) at a time, once a day.
    Strictly follow the instructions in any case.
  • If you miss a dose and remember it within one day, take the missed dose as soon as possible. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Pay attention when you perform dangerous operations such as driving a car since this medicine may cause disturbance of consciousness.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, hives, itch, deterioration of atopic dermatitis, photosensitivity reaction, erythema, bulla, peeling of skin, erythema multiform, night sweat, excessive sweating, cutaneous dryness, skin discoloration, loss of hair, diarrhea, stomachache, nausea, vomiting and candidiasis. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • respiratory distress, hives, palpitation [shock, anaphylaxis]
  • high fever, bloodshot eyes, erosion in lips/genitalia [toxic epidermal necrolysis, mucocutaneous ocular syndrome, ]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin and the white of eyes [hepatitis, liver dysfunction, jaundice, hepatic failure]
  • decreased urine output, edema, dry mouth [acute renal failure]
  • stomachache, frequent diarrhea, bloody stool [pseudomembranous colitis, hemorrhagic colitis]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
