Effects of this medicine

This medicine inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme to suppress production of angiotensin II, therby dilating blood vessels to decrease blood pressure.
It is usually used to treat hypertension, renal parenchymal hypertension and diabetic nephropathy caused by type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have: a history of angioedema, renal artery stenosis, hyperpotassemia or cerebrovascular disorder.
    If you are receiving apheresis or hemodialysis, on a dietary sodium restriction.
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Hypertension and renal parenchymal hypertension: In general, for adults, take 2 to 4 tablets (5 to10 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to disease, age and symptoms of the patient. However, for patients with severe hypertension or hypertension accompanied by renal disorder, the initial dose may be started with 1 tablet (2.5 mg) at a time.
    Diabetic nephropathy caused by type 1 diabetes mellitus: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (5 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day. However, for patients with severe renal disorder, the initial dose may be started with 1 tablet (2.5 mg) at a time.
    Strictly follow the instructions in any case.
  • If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Dizziness and lightheadedness may occur due to decreased blood pressure. Pay attention to performing dangerous operations such as driving a car or working at heights.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include cough, hypotension, dizziness, headache, discomfort or uncomfortable feeling in pharynx, light headedness and rash. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • respiratory distress, swelling of face/tongue/throat [angioedema]
  • nose/gum bleeding, subcutaneous hemorrhage of limbs [thrombocytopenia]
  • general malaise, swelling, thirst [acute renal failure, exacerbation of renal dysfunction]
  • numbness in limbs or lips, feeble muscles, paralysis of limbs [hyperpotassemia]
  • erythema, fever, enanthema [erythroderma, mucocutaneous ocular syndrome, pemphigus-like symptoms]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
