Effects of this medicine

This medicine mainly acts on beta cells of pancreas to promote secretion of insulin.
It is usually used in the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have ketosis, diabetic coma or precoma, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, hepatic disorder, renal disorder, infection, an injury, gastrointestinal disorder such as diarrhea and vomiting, or inadequate food intake caused by the cold, etc.
    If you are in the pre- or post-operative period.
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, start taking 0.5 to 1 mg of active ingredient, once to twice a day, before or after breakfast (once), or before or after breakfast and dinner (twice). The maintenance dose is generally 1 to 4 mg a day and the dosage may be adjusted suitably. But the maximum daily dose should not exceed 6 mg. This medicine contains 0.5 mg of glimepirid in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Take extra care in performing dangerous operations such as driving a car, operating machinery or work at heights. If hypoglycemia symptom occurs during such operations, it may cause an accident.
  • Please carry a card stating that you are a patient with diabetes mellitus.
  • Carry an adequate amount of sugar or glucose in preparation for hypoglycemia. If you are taking the medicine concomitantly with an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor (acarbose, voglibose, etc.), ingest glucose in case of any hypoglycemic symptoms.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include hypoglycemia, hypoglycemic symptoms, nausea, diarrhea and dizziness. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • lassitude, feeling of hunger, sweating [hypoglycemia]
  • anemic symptoms (tire easily, general malaise, palpitation), sore throat, subcutaneous/submucosal bleeding [pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin and white of the eyes [hepatic function disorder, jaundice]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask the pharmacy or medical institution how to discard.
