Effects of this medicine

This medicine suppresses production of gastric acid by blocking histamine receptors that are related to gastric acid secretion.
It is usually used for the treatment of gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, anastomotic ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and reflux esophagitis and the improvement of upper gastrointestinal bleeding and gastric mucosal lesion in acute gastritis and acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis. It is also used for anesthetic premedication.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, anastomotic ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, reflux esophagitis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding (due to gastric ulcer, acute stress ulcer, or acute gastric mucosal lesion): In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (150 mg of ranitidine) at a time twice a day, after breakfast and before sleep. However, it is also possible to take 4 tablets (300 mg) once a day before sleep.
    For the improvement of gastric mucosal lesions in acute gastritis and acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis (erosion, bleeding, redness, edema): In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (75 mg of ranitidine) at a time twice a day, after breakfast and before sleep. However, it is also possible to take 2 tablets (150 mg) at a time once a day before sleep.
    In either case, the dosage may be adjusted according to your disease or symptoms. Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
    Anesthetic premedication: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (150 mg of ranitidine) at a time, 2 times, once before sleep on the day before surgery and once 2 hours before anesthesia on the day of surgery. Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, itch, fever, angioedema, vasculitis, constipation, diarrhea and involuntary movement (tremor, nystagmus). If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • cold sweat, facial pallor, shortness of breath [shock, anaphylaxis]
  • anemic symptoms, fever, bleeding tendency [aplastic anemia, pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia]
  • general malaise, vomiting, yellow discoloration of the skin [hepatic dysfunction, jaundice]
  • muscle pain of the hands and feet, general malaise, reddish brown urine [rhabdomyolysis]
  • impaired consciousness, disturbed thinking, decreased judgment [conscious disorder, convulsion, myoclonus]
