Effects of this medicine

This medicine is a synthetic corticosteroid, and it shows anti-inflammatory action, anti-allergic action, immunosuppressive action and various metabolic actions.
It is usually used for the treatment of various diseases in each department such as internal medicine, pediatrics and surgery.
However, it does not eliminate the causes themselves of these diseases.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have infection, generalized mycosis, peptic ulcer, psychosis, tuberculosis, herpes simplex keratitis, posterior subcapsular cataract, glaucoma, hypertension, abnormal electrolyte or thrombosis.
    If you had a surgery in visceral organ recently.
    If you have a history of acute myocardial infarction.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, take 1 to 12 tablets (5 to 60 mg as the active ingredient) daily in 1 to 4 divided doses. The dosage may be adjusted according to your disease, age and symptoms.
    In cases where this medicine is used for acute phase of Kawasaki disease, in general, take 2 mg per 1 kg of body weight daily in 3 divided doses. The maximum daily dose is up to 60 mg (12 tablets).
    In each case, strictly follow the instructions.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose, skip the missed dose. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Pay attention to infection with chickenpox or measles. Consult with your doctor immediately if you suspect to acquire these infections.
  • If you are breastfeeding, avoid breastfeeding while taking this medicine.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include moon face and rash. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • cold-like symptoms, malaise, fever  [induced infection, exacerbation of infection]
  • nausea, thirst, fatigability  [secondary adrenocortical insufficiency, diabetes mellitus]
  • nausea, blackened feces, pain in abdomen  [gastrointestinal tract ulcer, gastrointestinal perforation, gastrointestinal bleeding]
  • feeling depressed, feeling unmotivated, spasmodic muscular contraction  [psychiatric disturbance, depressive state, convulsion]
  • low back pain and/or back pain, pain in the joints, muscle stiffness  [osteoporosis, aseptic necrosis of bone head in femur, humerus, etc., myopathy]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep the medicine out of the reach of infants and children. Store it at room temperature (1 to 30 degrees Celsius) away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
  • When you are inoculated with a live vaccine, be sure to consult with your doctor.
