Effects of this medicine

This medicine improves blood glucose level by stimulating insulin secretion and thus by suppressing after-meal blood glucose elevation (postprandial hyperglycemia).
Usually, used for treatment of type II diabetes mellitus.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you ever experienced any allergic reaction (itch, rash etc.) to any medicine.
    If you have ketosis, diabetic coma or precoma, type I diabetes mellitus, or infection; are in a pre- or post-operative state; have an injury, liver dysfunction, renal dysfunction, heart disease, pituitary malfunction, adrenal insufficiency, gastrointestinal disorder, malnutrition, or hunger; or are in a debilitated state, doing strenuous musclar exercise, or an alcohol drinker.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • General dosage regimen: for adults, take 2 tablets (10 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 3 times a day, just before each meal (within 5 minutes). The doseage should be adjusted according to your symptoms. Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor/pharmacist.
  • In case of missing a dose, skip the missed dose and take a dose just before the next meal if you have already begun eating a meal. DO NOT take double doses to make up for the missed dose.
  • If you took too much of the medicine (more than ordered), check with your doctor/pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine without the instructions of your doctor.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Strictly follow the dietary instructions given and kinesitherapy prescribed.
  • As dizziness, light-headedness, etc. may appear due to lowering of blood glucose, take extra care when working at heights or operating dangerous machinery such as driving a car.
  • If you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia, take sucrose, glucose or soft drinks, etc. containing an adequate amount of glucose. If you develop symptoms of hypoglycemia because you are taking the medicine concomitantly with an α-glucosidase inhibitor, ingest glucose but not sucrose.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

Common side effects are reported as below. If any of them occurs, check with your doctor/pharmacist: symptoms of hypoglycemia, weight increase, edema, abdominal distension, constipation, diarrhea, headache, etc.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • chest pain with feeling of pressure or tightness, cold sweat [myocardial infarction]
  • dizziness, abnormal feeling of hunger, trembling of hands/feet [hypoglycemia]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes [liver dysfunction]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
